We are back from our trip to Bilbao, which was a nice little weekend away. I must say that Anglet and our apartment are really starting to feel like home now that we have ventured out. We took a three hour charter bus from Biarritz to Bilbao. It was only 17 euro each way and drove along the coast, allowing us to take in the great beach towns in the Basque region. Bilbao was exciting to see, it feels simultaneously small-town and big-city. The Guggenheim was gorgeous and a site to see in itself, but the exhibits ended up being disappointing. They failed to mention on the website that most of the permanent exhibits were closed, leaving their temporary exhibit, Murakami, which we already saw in Los Angeles (and is far from my personal taste). At first I was really let down, but the building itself was worth seeing. Plus there are many more museums to be seen in Europe. Other than that little mishap, oh and the food of course - everything in Spain seems to be beige, room-temperature, and fishy (we ate a lot of bread) - besides that I would say Bilbao was well worth the trip.
