Florence & Cinque Terre

Ciao Ciao!

Oh man it feels good to be back! Our trip was amazing, but a month of living out of suitcases and sleeping in trains and hotels gets to be a little exhausting.

Florence and Cinque Terre were incredible. I would love to go back to Florence in the winter when it isn’t so incredibly hot. We spent two days in Florence after the longest sleeper train ride in the world. I can safely say we will not be taking any more overnight trains. We walked all of Florence and saw the sites: Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Gardens, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Piazza Signoria, etc. I must say I was very impressed by the Duomo. After so many months in Europe some of the churches start to sort of all look alike, but the Duomo was gorgeous and quite unique. We also had the most amazing sandwich at The Oil Shoppe and an iced cappuccino at Chiaro Scurro (Thank you Miss Genevieve – best advice ever!).

We took a train to Cinque Terre and spent the next two nights in the town of Levanto. It is the town right next to Monterosso and I’m so glad we decided to stay there because it was apart from all the August tourist madness. It was absolutely beautiful there. We visited every town and swam in the perfectly warm, blue water. We had originally planned on hiking the whole 12 kilometers, but then decided against it once we realized how hot it was. We only did one leg of the hike, but it made our trip much more enjoyable.

Other than that, it is very nice to be relaxing back in France. It has rained the past couple of days, which was a much-needed cool spell and now it is back to a beautiful summer day.

Lots of love,

Britta and Elliott

*Haha, both of us are trying our hardest to eek out a smile. This was taken at 7am after getting off the overnight train and not being allowed into our hotel until noon.
